Scheduling & Fees

To set up an initial appointment, please email me stating that you would like to schedule a new client appointment. I see a first session as a mutual discernment process: a time for me to hear more about who you are, and an opportunity for you to experience working with me. This is important because research shows the most important factor for achieving a successful outcome in therapy is the relationship with the therapist—not the therapeutic style or even the specific issue bringing you to this work. My fees are as follows:

  • 50-minute individual session - $150

  • 60-minute couples session - $195

  • Sliding Scale: I reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots for students and for those experiencing financial hardship. Please contact me to discuss an adjusted rate if you cannot pay the full fee.

Payment is due in full at time of service. I accept checks and credit or debit cards. If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, or do not give a 48 hour cancellation notice, you will be charged for the full cost of the session.

Consistent therapeutic work produces growth and transformation that lasts. At this time, I see all clients on a weekly basis. As both a therapist and a client of therapy myself, I take seriously the financial and personal commitment involved in weekly sessions, and believe consistency and frequency are key to our work together.

Insurance

I do not directly bill insurance; however, as mentioned above, I do provide a limited number of reduced fee appointments available for those with financial hardships.

While using insurance can help lower the cost of services for the client, it also dictates much of how we do therapy: how often you can come, how long we can work together, and even what we focus on in our sessions. Insurance companies also require a mental health diagnosis to enter into your health records. While diagnoses can sometimes be helpful, they can also be stigmatizing or disempowering, labeling human experiences of suffering as disordered. By accepting private pay rather than insurance, we can maintain greater privacy, flexibility, and ownership within our work together.

As an out-of-network provider, I am able to provide documentation for you to submit to your insurance company for full or partial reimbursement, according to your insurance plan. The financial agreement for payment for therapy is between you and me, not between me and your insurance company. Please carefully check the details of your coverage, and note that most insurance companies do not provide coverage for couple’s therapy.

Some questions you might pose to your insurance company to determine the details of your coverage include the following:

  • Does my plan cover out-of-network providers?

  • What is my out-of-network deductible?

  • Have I met my deductible this year?

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” that explains an approximation of how much your mental health care will cost in a year. Under the law, health care providers are required to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You may ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

As noted in the insurance section above, I do not directly bill insurance. You will need to determine with your insurance company whether I am covered as an out-of-network provider. Our financial agreement is separate from your insurance. Upon request, I can provide you with a monthly statement of charges to submit to your insurance.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
